Why we took the leap to make travel easier for all.
Before we started FOUND, people were always asking us for insider information before they traveled. Where should they go? What should they do there? Where are the new restaurants? What are the tourist things that they should do? What should they avoid? We gladly obliged, telling them our old standbys, new favorites, and convincing them to try things that they thought they would hate but we knew they would adore. This daily occurrence cemented us as a travel recommendation authority, at least with all our friends and colleagues!
One such request was for a friend who was traveling to New Orleans. She was taking a girls' weekend trip and was looking for suggestions. It was a typical request, until we remembered that our normal suggestions for go-to bars and cocktail spots wouldn’t work -- our friend and her friends were Muslim. We examined our list and took a a different approach, curating a completely different set of suggestions based upon her needs. Our more approachable (and halal) recommendation list for New Orleans was born! And when she got back from the trip, our friend had nothing but wonderful things to say about her experiences in the city known for boozing down Bourbon Street.
That got us thinking. Based on first impressions, not every place is fit for every person. Yelp and TripAdvisor are only going to give you half the story, and the other half of that story is crowdsourced by people you don’t know and don't know you. But travel done right can change your mind about a place. It can open your mind to new experiences, new people, and new ways of thinking. So you don’t drink, but you can still have an amazing time in New Orleans with your girlfriends. So you dread the work trip to Oklahoma City, but you can discover new musicians at the Blue Door before anyone else. You're much more willing to step out of your comfort zone and try something new when that recommendation comes from someone you trust, like your friends.
We want to get to know you better, and we want you to know us better! Join us over here at the blog to learn more about us, more about how to travel like a local, and learn how to get more out of your trip so you can find those new experiences. There is a whole world out there waiting to be FOUND.
