Traveling in a Winter Wonderland

Winter conjures up images of crackling fires, cozy blankets, and staying home. We always buck that tradition and think winter is the best time to travel!

Why you should plan a winter trip now:

  1. It’s cheaper! This might seem obvious, but the off season does bring down prices in some spots. Of course if you’re looking to go somewhere warm, or a ski resort, this doesn’t work. But if you’re ok with a colder destination that isn’t known for winter getaways, you can really save on airfare and hotels.

  2. There are fewer tourists! If you’ve always wanted to go to a specific museum, tourist attraction, or tourist heavy locale, winter is the time to do it. The lines are shorter and everything is less crowded. Just be aware of closing times in some places. They may be adjusted to close earlier or open later, especially on holidays.

  3. Meet more locals! In our experience, fewer tourists mixed with the holiday spirit means that more locals are out and about, and excited that you’re visiting during what might be their most difficult season. We make great connections with locals during our travels, and get some wonderful recommendations for those hidden gems.

  4. Different food, drinks, and fun! Winter activities abound, especially around the holidays. Markets, ice skating, snow shoeing, special concerts and shows make a familiar place feel like a new destination. Also who can resist the allure of holiday sweets, baked goods, spiced cocktails, and more?
